Government sets up five leading and working groups to enhance governance

MACAU, February 18 - The Chief Executive, Mr Sam Hou Fai, issued on 13 February an internal directive for the setting up of five leading and working groups within the Government, tasked with enhancing governance capability and governance level.

The groups included a leading group on public administration reform, and a leading group for the promotion of the construction of the Guangdong-Macao Intensive Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, with both those groups being headed by the Chief Executive. Also newly established are: a coordination group for public administration reform, a legal coordination working group, and a city beautification and sanitation working group, all under the leadership of the Secretary for Administration and Justice.

In line with the important speech made by President Xi Jinping at the celebration of the 25th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland and the inauguration ceremony of the sixth-term Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR), the Chief Executive convened an executive meeting and decided to set up the five leading and working groups.

These groups will, under the terms of their respective roles, enhance interdepartmental and cross-sector cooperation. The aim is to improve the governance ability and governance level of the MSAR Government, advance the leadership and overall coordination mechanisms for public administration reforms, strengthen top-level guidance and cross-sector coordination, enhance legislative coordination and planning, improve the legal system, and promote healthy interaction between administrative and legislative work.

The groups will undertake their tasks with a spirit of innovation, and in a proactive and forward-thinking manner, in particular making the most of various state-level support policies to help the Cooperation Zone in Hengqin achieve its second-phase targets of high-quality development. Also, they will improve the system for ensuring and improving people’s livelihoods, and do practical work for Macao people’s welfare.
